Are You Still Coachable? Winning in the New Era of Real Estate

We recently had the opportunity to welcome national real estate coach and speaker Jared James to St. Charles for our REALTOR® Showcase. Jared had plenty to say about what it takes to win in this new era of real estate.

The challenges are real. Our industry is changing. Technology is advancing rapidly. Artificial intelligence is becoming part of our everyday business. Consumer expectations continue to evolve, and the way REALTORS® demonstrate their value is more important than ever.

But one thought has stayed with me.

Are we still coachable?

Think back to when you first entered this business. Most of us were eager to learn everything we could. We attended classes, asked questions, found mentors, tried new ideas, and watched successful people to figure out what they were doing differently.

Then something happens. We gain experience.

We develop systems that work. We become comfortable in our routines. Eventually, people begin coming to us for answers instead of the other way around.

Success is a wonderful thing, but it can also make us comfortable.

Chances are you have already experienced success in this profession. But past success does not guarantee future relevance.

The question isn't whether we know how to sell real estate. The question is whether we are willing to continue learning how to sell real estate in a world that keeps changing around us.

That was one of my biggest takeaways from our Showcase. Winning in this new era doesn't mean abandoning everything that got us here. Relationships still matter. Trust matters. Communication, professionalism, and serving the client will never go out of style.

What changes are the tools available to us and the expectations of the people we serve.

We have to be willing to learn new technology, understand AI rather than fear it, improve how we communicate our value, strengthen our skills, and occasionally question the way we've always done things.

Most importantly, we need people around us who are willing to challenge us.

Coaches. Mentors. Brokers. Fellow REALTORS®. Sometimes even newer agents who see the business through a completely different lens.

Experience should give us confidence, but it should never convince us that we have arrived.

The most successful professionals I know remain curious. They ask questions. They listen. They adapt. And they are willing to admit there may still be a better way.

Our industry will continue to change.

We can spend our energy resisting that change, or we can prepare ourselves to lead through it.

Stay curious. Stay willing to learn. Stay coachable.

The next era of real estate is already here.

Let's be ready for it.
