The Power of the REALTOR® Network
Why collaboration beats competition and how relationships create longevity in this business
Real estate is a competitive business. We compete for listings, buyers, market share, and sometimes even the same seat at the closing table. Competition can make us better. But after years in this industry, I have become convinced of something equally important: collaboration is what makes us stronger.
Some of the most valuable relationships I have developed are with people who, on paper, might be considered competitors. They are REALTORS® I can call with a question, bounce an idea off of, or work alongside to solve a problem. We may compete for business tomorrow, but today we have clients depending on us to work together and get a transaction across the finish line.
Our network also extends far beyond fellow REALTORS®. Lenders, title professionals, inspectors, appraisers, insurance agents, contractors, photographers, attorneys, and countless other affiliate partners are an important part of what we do. No one person can be an expert in every aspect of a real estate transaction. Part of the value we bring is knowing who we can trust when our clients need answers.
That is why opportunities to connect, learn, and grow together are so important.
On September 17, St. Charles REALTORS® will host our annual REALTOR® Showcase at the J. Scheidegger Center on the campus of Lindenwood University. National real estate coach and speaker Jared James will join us for what I believe will be an extraordinary opportunity to invest in ourselves and our businesses.
But the day is about more than coaching.
Our Affiliate Expo gives REALTORS® the opportunity to meet and strengthen relationships with the professionals who work shoulder to shoulder with us every day. These are the people who become part of the team we rely upon to better serve our clients. At the same time, it is an opportunity to connect with other REALTORS®, exchange ideas, learn from one another, and expand the professional relationships that can last an entire career.
And perhaps most importantly, we have to remain willing to be coached.
Regardless of how long we have been in this business or how successful we have become, there is always something we can learn. The strongest professionals I know remain curious, coachable, and willing to surround themselves with people who challenge them to become better.
So yes, compete. Work hard. Build your business and give people every reason to choose you. But while you're doing it, build your network, invest in your relationships, and never stop investing in yourself.
I hope to see you September 17.
Because transactions come and go, markets rise and fall, and awards eventually gather dust.
Relationships are what build careers.
